"A story beats with the heart of every person who has ever strained ears to listen. On the breath of the storyteller, it soars. Until its images and deeds become so real you can see them in the air, shimmering like oases on the horizon line." Cameron Dokey, The Storyteller's Daughter

About Me

I have been telling stories for many years to assorted audiences (anyone who will listen!).  I enjoy folktales from various areas around the world, and enjoy using instruments and music or sound effects with these stories.  I work with Ogden and Salt Lake City Ghost Tours as a storyguide, telling the tales of the hauntings in these northern Utah cities.  By teaching music in an elementary school, I have a good sense of what appeals to children of various ages, and by working with Ghost Tours I know how to entertain groups of adults.  I also appear in junior and senior high schools and help them appreciate the art of storytelling.  Some of my best listeners are my grandchildren...ranging in age from a few months to twelve years:  I have even performed on programs with one of them!  Stories unite people of all ages and walks of life...so come and listen to a story...and then pass it on to someone else.

"I liked how you made it feel like we were really there."  8th grade student

"I first heard Laurie Allen tell when I was in college.  Since that time, I've returned to listen to her again and again.  I've even invited her to my class to perform for my high school students."  Thomas Manning, teacher

"The students almost did not breathe during the stories because they were so caught up in them.  (They were) hanging on her every word."  Jennifer Baker, junior high history teacher
